We Won – Senator Says She’ll Fix Child Mental Health Screening Bill

San Antonio Senator Says She’ll Fix Child Mental Health Screening Bill, CCHR Texas Agrees To “Call Off The Dogs!”

Dear Val,

We wanted to let you know that your voice was heard!

We met with Senator Van de Putte and Representative Menendez’s offices today to talk about HB1232.

We have just received written confirmation from both offices that Senator Leticia Van de Putte and Representative Menendez have agreed to amend HB1232 to address your concerns! Specifically:

* There will be no uniform mental health screening assessment developed under this bill…
* Parents will give consent for each specific agency or provider before information is shared…
* They can refuse to allow information to be shared with a specific agency or provider, or all agencies or providers…
* And they may withdraw consent at any time without any penalty against themselves or their children.

And the bill will instruct all concerned with the pilot, that nothing in this bill shall be interpreted as allowing school based mental health screening.

As a result, while we may remain concerned about mental health treatment in Bexar County and all counties in the state of Texas, we no longer oppose this bill.

Thank you for bringing your voices forth and letting them be heard. They do make a difference!

We also thank Senator Van de Putte and Representative Menendez for listening.

Thanks a million,
Your CCHR Texas Team!
