How to fix the Class Not Registered error when Launching SRWare Iron in Windows 8

So, having happily dropped Mozilla Firefox in favor of the more memory efficient SRWare Iron browser (which is a fork of the Google Chrome code, optimized for online security and privacy), I found that I couldn’t launch Iron from the Quick Lauck bar, nor from a weblink inside an Outlook message.

So, after some research and trying different things, this is what worked on my Windows 8.1 64-bit laptop:

1. Go to a run box (Windows Key + R) and type regedit (to start up the registry editor)

2. In there, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and find all the Chromium entries. In my case there were 3, as shown in the image below:

3. Right-click each of the Chromium entries individually and pick Export (just in case). Remember to put them in a safe and easily accessible place.

4. Open up all the sub-entries until you hit the Command entry on each. Then, on the right-hand pane, right-click and delete each of the DelegateExecute keys.

5. That’s it, you should now be able to launch SRWare Iron from the Quick Launch bar.

After doing this, I was now able to see the SRWare Iron program under Default Programs (Control Panel), and was able to associate it with .html .htm and .url files

I’m still working on getting Outlook to launch Iron when I click a hyperlink, but Iron still doesn’t show up when I try to associate the HTTP or HTTPS protocols with a program.

If anyone has solved this, I’d love to hear about it.
